Last adjustments made, the FIS ok for the "Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening"

At the beginning of the week the new inspection with the organizing committee: the lowering of temperatures helps the work to prepare the great news of the next World Cup, scheduled for the weekends of 29-30 October and 5-6 November. Markus Waldner: "The work on and off the track is proceeding according to plan".

On Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 September the last inspection by the FIS and the managers of the "Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening" took place in Cervinia, for the definitive ok to the historic cup races on the "Gran Becca", with the men's descents scheduled for Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October and those for women on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 November. There are no obstacles to the success of the first cross-border races in the history of the World Cup; a delegation made up of FIS representatives and the heads of the municipalities involved and the local organizing committee met in the past two days for the last inspection. During the general assembly on the first day of work, the adjustments made after the previous inspection were presented, while on Tuesday those present went to the "Gran Becca" track to inspect the start and finish areas, the course, the compound. TV and several locations located in the village. FIS Race Director Markus Waldner is very satisfied with the work done by the managers: “A lot has happened since the last inspection in July 2022. Our suggestions for improvement have been put into practice, the work in and out of the track is progressing according to plan. The scenery with a constant view of the Matterhorn is absolutely unique, as is the race course in the Italian-Swiss border area, which for the first time in the history of the World Cup crosses two nations: this undoubtedly represents an added value. With more snowfalls and lower temperatures, there are no obstacles to the realization of a successful event ”. Thanks to the snowfall last weekend, it was possible to reopen the summer ski area above Zermatt. An important step, as Franz Julen, President of the Organizing Committee underlines: “The question about the snow accompanies us every day. In this season and at these altitudes, snowfalls are anything but unusual. Until now at the end of October there has always been snow on the glacier and we are confident that it will be the same this year as well ”. Tickets for the individual events of the “Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening” are available on www.speedopening.com. Two thirds of the race course can be seen both from the grandstands and from the Public Zone, in the finish area at Laghi Cime Bianche, a unique fact for the World Cup events. Tickets can only be purchased in advance, while they will not be available on site.
