In the pits from the third weekend of December, when the Ramsau competition took place, the Nordic combined World Cup returns after almost a month with a great classic, the three days of competitions in Val di Fiemme.
However, it starts today with the Provisional Competition Round in the evening (7 pm); from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 January races in succession, with the first individual trial jumping on the HS 104 in Predazzo (10 am) and the Gundersen on 10 km in Lago di Tesero, starting at 1.45 pm. On Saturday the Team Sprint takes place (jump at 10, bottom at 13.30) and finally on Sunday it closes with another Individual Gundersen between HS 104 and 10 km (10 and 14.15).
There is expectation for this test, also because the Cup standings this year received a jolt with the young Austrian Johannes Lamparter to upset the plans of the traditional protagonists, even if the dominator Jarl Magnus Riiber, leader with 360, leads the general. points, 95 more than Lamparter and 114 of margin over Vinzenz Geiger.
The technical director of the Italian national team, Federico Rigoni, has summoned seven athletes for next weekend's races: Alessandro Pittin, Samuel Costa, Aaron Kostner, Raffale Buzzi and Giulio Bezzi, Domenico Mariotti and Stefano Radovan from Trentino, the latter two debutants in the Cup. Pittin has returned from a good performance in Ramsau (15th and 23rd), Costa had some treble in Ruka (13th and 16th) while Kostner, also in Ruka, occupied a 19th and 30th place. “The form seems good to me - said Pittin himself on the eve - but clearly after Ramsau we have not competed anymore. Obviously it's difficult, it's almost like starting from scratch, like the first stages of the World Cup, now we have to get back into the race to really understand what level we are at.
We had two small gatherings, one between Christmas and New Year in Seefeld and one recently in Oberstdorf. We managed to jump well in good conditions on expertly prepared trampolines, we hope it is a good omen for the races in Val di Fiemme ”.
The analysis of the director Rigoni: “Now there is a lot of understanding between the technicians and the athletes and this is, in my opinion, a very important note. We are aware that on the part of the fund, as we have seen in recent years, we have nothing to envy to other countries. On the jump part, the technicians and the athletes are working with a lot of commitment and seriousness. We know that we need to grow a lot and the path is not easy, the level has risen a lot. Danny Winkelmann, the new head coach of the CdM team, with his experience and skills is trying to give us the right directions.
Nobody has a magic wand, but there is a great desire to grow and I hope this will be rewarded with satisfaction, if not in the short, but in the medium term ”. For the organizing committee Fiemme Ski World Cup a new great commitment: "After the long weekend of the Tour de Ski - underlined the president Bruno Felicetti - and yet another positive test by our staff of volunteers, we are approaching the three Nordic combined races with great enthusiasm. We have passed the strict protocols of the International Federation with flying colors.
The races in Predazzo and Lago di Tesero are promising to be very spectacular, unfortunately they will still be behind closed doors, so fans are left with TV with Rai and Eurosport to dedicate ample space. Also in this case, without the support of volunteers, local administrations and the Province, and of course FISI and FIS, it would be impossible to propose major events in succession. For us, another step towards the 2026 Olympics ".
