The race was strongly influenced by a heavy snowfall which slowed down the channels of Normal Hill in Seefeld. Probably the best solution would have been to postpone all of a day, but the race management decided to complete the test, which was finally run at the limits of regularity.
In the first act Ryoyu Kobayashi recorded the best measure (101 m) and the best score, putting behind Karl Geiger, landed at 100 m, of 2.1 lengths. In the third place was the surprising Slovenian Ziga Jelar, good at exploiting extreme weather conditions. In fact, the low pectorals were found to jump in front wind, which with the passing of the minutes is then turned behind. Several athletes of second or third band then found themselves in the middle of the race in the noble positions of the classification. Among them Peter Prevc, who finished 5th just before the Czech Sakala and the Norwegian Markeng. He was able to capitalize on the conditions found also Sebastian Colloredo, who got the 15th score.
Also in the second series the first ones to present themselves in the starting point were able to enjoy favorable conditions. The heavy snowfall has progressively slowed down the channels, penalizing a lot of those who were leading at halfway through the race. The ranking has then turned upside down and there has been a resounding comeback. Dawid Kubacki, 27th at the end of the first series, landed at 104.5 m. This measure allowed him to climb one after the other all the athletes who preceded him and to conquer a sensational gold medal. The twenty-eight of Zakopane has preceded by 2.8 points the compatriot Kamil Stoch, also 'in comeback from the 18th position. On the contrary, he managed to limit the damage in really insidious conditions, Stefan Kraft, who thus conquered the bronze.
Philipp Aschenwald was left to dry for 3 tenths, who finished ahead of the Germans Freitag, Leyhe and Eisenbichler. On the other hand, Ryoyu Kobayashi 14th and Karl Geiger 18th have fallen into the standings. Sebastian Colloredo also slipped in a few places, 22nd at the end of the race. He had not passed the Alex Insam cut instead.
