While the world of cross-country skiing begins, or rather has already thought about rearranging skis and waxes in the wardrobe waiting for next winter, there are those who are preparing to dust off their roller skis to continue "skiing" even in the most recent months. hot. In the absence of snow, we will move on to the less usual asphalt where the wheels instead of the slabs will allow you to advance towards the goal represented, this year, by the World Championships in Val di Fiemme, scheduled for 16 to 19 September 2021. The Trentino is therefore back as a protagonist and, after the 2015 World Championships and a series of events including the finals of the Guide World Classic Tour 2017 and the 2018 and 2019 World Cup finals, it is now preparing to host the world championship of roller skis with the challenges reserved for the Sprint, Individual, Team Sprint and Mass Start specialties.
It will start on Thursday 16 September with the individual free technique on the new track built at Passo Lavazè, then moving to Ziano di Fiemme for the two days dedicated respectively to the Sprint 200 meters and the Team Sprint, both in skating. The last day of world competitions will see the Mass Start in classic technique with the Final Climb, in full Tour de Ski style which will ideally follow the final stage of the winter challenge with the climb to Alpe del Cermis. To keep an eye on, in addition to the starter list which will offer excellent ideas to begin analyzing the forces in the field, there will obviously also be the Covid situation and its evolution from now to mid-September.
The protocols for the containment of the contagion will be evaluated near the event, but the certainties for the conduct of the event appear well founded, given the recent winter successes collected with the events in Val di Fiemme. The excellent organization signed by the Fiemme World Cup will take care of the rest, which every year masterfully directs the orchestra of the Nordic Ski and Roller Ski World Cup events. Furthermore, to make the atmosphere even more magical, in a year of rebirth after the stop linked to the pandemic, there will be the splendid sceneries of the Val di Fiemme in the days of late summer to offer suggestive views of the Dolomites that surround and dominate the entire valley.
The date has been set and circled in red on the calendar, now all that remains is to wait for September to see the great rollerski champions compete to take home the world championships, with the World Cup recovery from Coronavirus that will inevitably pass from Val di Fiemme.
