The World Cup in Val di Fiemme? Record numbers with 334 million viewers

From the Tour de Ski to the Nordic combined, the appointment in the 2021/22 season will also feature the new Mixed Team.

The Fiemme World Cup committee is already working for the 2021/22 Nordic skiing season, after the confirmations in the FIS calendars of the cross-country World Cup races, within the Tour de Ski, and the Nordic combined. It is also true that work is already underway with a view to the 2026 Olympics, but also at the Roller Ski World Championships next September. The calendar says that the next edition's Tour de Ski will be shorter than usual, also in view of the Olympic commitments in Beijing. It will start in Lenzerheide with two days, December 28 and 29, then all in Germany in Oberstdorf on December 31 and January 1, then the grand finale in Val di Fiemme with the Mass Start on Monday 3 and the Final Climb at Alpe Cermis Tuesday 4th January. The appointment with the CdM of Nordic combined in Trentino, this time, will represent a milestone in the history, not only of the Val di Fiemme, but of the entire circuit: in fact, in the three days from 7 to 9 January it will take place , also the first "Mixed Team" race, a real gem. Thus, in addition to the two traditional male Gundersen, for the first time the girls of the combined race also arrive in Val di Fiemme, engaged in the mixed race and in an awaited women's World Cup with the Mass Start HS 104/5 km. Needless to say, the interest aroused in the world by the Fiemme races is always very high. The Trentino days of the Tour de Ski last edition concentrated the attention of over 42 million viewers in live TV alone, confirming the Fiemme event as the most watched ever. Furthermore, compared to the previous season, the final of the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme had an increase of 27% of viewers in the live shows. After Val di Fiemme (42 million), in order there are the races of Val Müstair (28 million) and Falun (25 million). But that's not all: always considering the live TV data, the Final Climb of the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme overcomes the most popular race of the Alpine Ski World Cup (Lenzerheide, 40 million viewers) and is behind only at the Special Jumping World Cup races in Zakopane (105 million) and Willingen (43 million). And again Val di Fiemme is in an excellent position on the podium of the Nordic Combined, second with 14.57 million behind Seefeld (16.5 million) and in the February race in Klingenthal (14.25 million) - again in the live TV, but with a total of 92 million viewers. The numbers that matter are the total number of viewers who have seen the events of Nordic Skiing in Val di Fiemme on the small screen, as many as 334 million! It is clear that with these assumptions the committee led by Bruno Felicetti starts with the wind in its sails, the imperative is to do better and better and to bring more and more visibility to a location that is rapidly moving towards the 2026 Olympics. “Thanks to the FIS and our volunteers - said Felicetti - our races are among the most sought after in the white world. From the 90s to today, our history has been enriched with great experiences, the next challenge will be the Olympics, but World Cups and World Championships are always in our sights to give continuity to a significant and important image of Trentino and the Val di Fiemme. With local institutions and our inevitable volunteers, every great goal is achievable ”.
