This afternoon on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck opened the special jump program for the World Championships in Seefeld.
The first series was very spectacular and uncertain. Five athletes went beyond the HS point, set at 130 m, and four closed within 2.7 points. The best measure was that of Ryoyu Kobayashi, who landed at 133.5 m, but lost ground on stylistic evaluations and compensation. The Japanese was therefore in third position at 2.6 points from the provisional leader and beat a tenth Karl Geiger (131 m). The Swiss Killian Peier, who arrived at 131 m with a light wind behind him, closed the first part of the race, with a 1.2 point advantage over Markus Eisenbichler. All the others paid almost ten lengths from the tread, Stefan Kraft and Johann Andre Forfang finished fifth on equal to 9.3 points from the Swiss, while Kamil Stoch did not go beyond the seventh place. On the other hand, two weight athletes like Andreas Wellinger 32 ° and Halvor Egner Granerud 33 ° did not pass the cut. Alex Insam 41th and Sebastian Colloredo 47th were also eliminated.
In the second act Kamil Stoch, with a stylistically perfect jump of 129.5 m, tried the resounding comeback, but it stopped at the foot of the podium, since the gap against the leading group proved to be unbridgeable. Among the four athletes fighting for the victory, the first to present himself in the starting pole was Karl Geiger.
The German pushed once more over the HS point, reaching 130.5 m and putting pressure on the direct opponents. Pressure that betrayed Kobayashi at the decisive moment, making it slide in 4th position after a jump of 126.5 m. At this point it was Eisenbichler's turn, who with the best jump of his career, reached 135.5 m. This measure proved to be unattainable for Killian Peier (129.5 m). For the German, therefore, the first career victory in first level individual competitions has arrived. The Swiss instead was bypassed by just over a point even by Geiger, but he defended the bronze medal, totally unexpected until a few days ago. In the end, Eisenbichler's has been a real domain, since he closed with 12 lengths ahead of compatriot.
Behind Ryoyu Kobayashi 4th and Kamil Stoch 5th finished Stefan Kraft 6th and Norwegians Johann Andre Forfang and Robert Johansson, 7th and 8th respectively. Also included in the top 10 are Richard Freitag 9th and the young Slovenian Timi Zajc 10th.
