The fluctuating wind behind has forced the race, led by Michael Neumayer, constantly sags and surges of the pole base, without making the linear competition at 100%. He was eventually forced the athlete on the eve favorite: the Austrian Stefan Kraft.
In the first series, five athletes have excelled on all: the first to have missed was Andreas Wellinger, author of 234.5 meters from the ski jump record with a telemark supported no particular worries. Subsequently it was decided to lower as much as 4 gates, even if environmental conditions were all consistent in all respect to those of the Teutonic.
Kraft was the only one able to place in front of the athlete to Ruhpolding, thanks to a performance of 227.5 meters and by virtue of points earned thanks to compensation tied to poles of departure. Provisional third place for the yellow bib Kamil Stoch, with a jump of 222.5 meters, beyond the most optimistic forecasts of a couple of days ago.
Even Domen Prevc and Daniel Andre Tande remained in the wake of the first three, with performance of 220 and 215.5 meters, always from the post of the Austrian and Polish. The rest of the competition was already halfway staccatissimo competition, with Markus Eisenbichler sixth and first of the 'land'.
In the contract decisive segment, the first to show up at the start was the Norwegian, author of a performance by applause of 229 meters. Therefore, the race management has opted again to lower the gate of 2 units to the four remaining athletes. The seventeen year old Slovenian, with a jump of 211 meters, has lost a place to the benefit of Tande and saw go up in smoke the opportunity to get on the podium at the first flight of life competition.
Kamil Stoch, by virtue of the status of dazzling form, managed to defend the top 3 from the back of the pursuers, thanks to a jump of 217 meters. A 222.5 stopped Wellinger, finally making the fastest score in the heats, but useless to undermine the athlete of Schwarzach im Pongau with regard to ultimate success.
In fact, Kraft was able to defend himself from the assault of the Teutonic, with a measurement of 218 meters, despite a small mistake in the first phase of flight. For Rot-Weiß-Rot athlete is the second success of the season, which is coupled with that achieved in the opening of Vierschanzentournee to Oberstdorf. So Kraft goes back forward in the fight for the crystal ball, when there are many races to him potentially favorable.
For the runner, this is the first podium on a flight pad and the fourth in the last five races. Surely it is the fittest man in the moment, because it manages to combine the great power in the boost phase to an effective in not losing speed at the same time. Attention to him for the World Championships in Lahti.
Stoch has something to rejoice from today's competition: is back in the top 3 in a flight race after more than five years, from Tauplitz / Bad Mitterndorf January 15, 2012, and above all build up a gap over nearest rival in the overall standings of the maximum circuit.
The man, or rather the guy who most impressed for putting quality on display is definitely Domen Prevc, able to make incredible flybys 70-80 meters long, never before seen by even the most illustrious countrymen. About Slovenia, today is lost to 9 winning streak on the flying hill, which began almost two years ago in the final in Planica.
The first non 'alien' was finally Peter Prevc 6th, thanks to an attractive 4 positions comeback in the second set, with a jump that will give him confidence for the season finale. reverse path had Eisenbichler, passed from sixth to eighth place finish.
They completed the top 10 Michael Hayboeck (7th), Piotr Zyla (9th) and Richard Freitag (10th): the first has been shown to have a good attitude to the extreme race contexts, but still lack a quid to continually play for the podium; Polish was placed for the 9th time in the top ten in the last 10 races; German, perhaps, is the one that has more to complain about with himself, in fact started as an outsider for the top 3.
Surprising result for Jan Ziobro, definitely not a born flier, but one of the jumpers in better shape of the circuit. With the 12th place today has improved his best career result in a flight environment.
Big sweep the 'old men': the best was Noriaki Kasai (14th) with its venerable 44 years played; first points of the season for thirty-seven Dimitry Vassiliev (16th) and second consecutive race in the top 30 for the thirty-nine Janne Ahonen (23 °).
The general classification of always sees in Stoch head the World Cup with 1038 points, followed by Tande (903) and Domen Prevc (831). Kraft is approaching and stands at 820 points, in fourth place.
Tomorrow will be replicated with the second flight test in five scheduled, always at Oberstdorf. It will start at 13.30 hours with the qualification, to continue at 15.00 with the actual competition.
