Ski jumping: Austria mock Poland in Zakopane Team Event, Italy ninth

Second victory in as many World Cup races for the Austrians, who overtook the Polish and Norwegian hosts. Poland, which seemed certain of success two jumps from the end, collapsed in the final due to a counter-performance from Stekala, mvp in the first series and disastrous in the second. Italy was eliminated at the end of the first series, 9a at the end.

Poland made a void in the first series: all four jumpers excelled in their respective rotations and halfway through the race the advantage over Austria was 21.8 points. The mvp among the hosts was Andrzej Stekala, able to push easily at 137m, a measure that allowed him to obtain the second score in the series, behind Daniel Huber. The Salzburger dragged Austria to provisional second position, with a large margin over Norway, Japan and Slovenia. In the rear, Italy lost the challenge to qualify for the second series with Switzerland, finishing 9th. Among the Azzurri the best was Alex Insam, who proved to be on the rise compared to the first seasonal outings. Tomorrow the Val Gardena will be at the start, together with Giovanni Bresadola, in the individual competition. The second series was interrupted by numerous breaks due to the difficult weather conditions, which determined the final result. In the third rotation Stekala found himself in the starting pole at the wrong time, landing at 115.5. Poland, firmly in command until then, was thus overtaken by Austria. Everything was therefore decided at the last jump with the duel between Kubacki and Huber. In the end it was the Austrian who came out the winner. Poland mocked after dominating three quarters of the race. Third place for Norway, driven by Lindvik and Johansson.
