Winning the 30km freestyle mass start line, Marit Bjoergen won the sixth gold and the tenth Olympic medal of his career, becoming the most successful ever in winter sports. Historic treble for Norway thanks to Therese Johaug silver and bronze Kristin Steira.

The race was decided after 10 km, when they attack the three Norwegian tip: Bjoergen, Steira and Johaug make the empty, remaining from the sun and working mutual agreement until the last two kilometers. Unexpected collapse of Aino Kaisa Saarinen first, then above that of Charlotte Kalla, one of the big favorites for the medals, which not only does not hold the pace of the Norwegians, but it comes off even from the chase group. In the final the first to give Steira is, however, very happy for what is his first individual Olympic medal. Bjoergen attacks on the last climb, with Johaug trying to resist, but you have to give up being satisfied, however, with the silver medal. For Bjoergen brings us the third gold at the Olympics in Sochi, as well as the sixth of his career and the tenth overall medal at the Games, a result that allows it to rewrite the history of winter sports.
At level six gold medals there are in fact only the cross-country skier Lyubov Egorova and the skater Lidya Skoblikova, which, however, have a smaller number of less valuable metals. In addition, among the girls on ten medals overall, nor Raisa Smetanina nor Stefania Belmondo, the only two like Bjoergen, can boast no fewer than six golds. Summing up the victory with today's Marit Bjoergen became the most successful woman in the history of the Winter Olympics.

The race today will go down in history not only for victory but also for the historic Bjoergen triplet obtained from the Norway women: cross-country skiing at the Olympics in the past, in fact, only the Soviet Union and Finland were able to monopolize the podium . If we extend the discussion to men, the sweep off was successful three times instead of just one to Norway and Sweden.

After celebrating worthily businesses today, it is also right to point out what happened behind the leading trio, as we find different outsider among the top ten. Splendid also the race of the Italian, at least compared to expectations: Elisa Brocard ends thirteenth, sixteenth Debora Agreiter, Marina Piller twenty-fifth and Forty-Ilaria Debertolis. Particularly perky Agreiter, who was in the group fighting for the fourth place before stopping inexplicably changing the twentieth kilometer ski, losing more than thirty seconds, which was no longer able to recover.
