Dobbiaco, Matveeva burning Falla photo finish

Second career victory at the World Cup level to Natalia Matveeva, almost ten years after the first. The Russian has mocked at the photo finish the favorite Maiken Caspersen Falla, for just 8 hundredths of a second.

Matveeva, whose first and so far only victory in the maximum circuit dating back to October 2007 (Düsseldorf), had closed in fourth place qualification, and found itself coupled with Falla in all rounds. In the quarter and semi-finals, to win the battery and to arouse the best impression was the Norwegian, it presented itself as the final act as the woman to beat. On the occasion, Falla has opted for a policy of very aggressive race, the race of launching immediately a fast pace and trying to resolve the dispute before the finish straight. Strategy that has enabled it to shake off immediately Vesna Fabjan, forced to settle for sixth place, and later also Hanna Falk, Sandra Ringwald and Ida Ingermarsdotter, arrived in the order from the third to fifth place. He has instead dropped Matveeva, which occurred last corner attached to her opponent queues. Falla has forced the players to try to widen the space, but succumbed in the final, earning the decisive overtaking a few meters from the finish. Home Italy, the four athletes who achieved the qualification in the morning - Ilaria Debertolis, Gaia Vuerich, Greta Laurent and Debora Roncari - were eliminated in the quarterfinals. For Roncari these are the first points of the World Cup in his career. Feather the 15th victory in the first-level sprint races, Falla could take comfort in thinking of the specialty rankings, which sees command with 352 points, against 192 for Hanna Falk, most immediate pursuer. Matveeva up to third place, a portion 190. From the fourth to the seventh place the four main protagonists of the season - ingvild flugstad østberg (188), Stina Nilsson (170), Heidi Weng (153) and Krista Pärmäkoski (135) -, who defected en masse today's race. Therefore remains unchanged the race for the crystal ball: Weng is firmly in the lead with 1351 points, 308 strong margin lengths of Østberg, 319 and 506 of Pärmäkoski on Nilsson.
