Saturday 8 February 2014 5 minutes reading time
The first 7.5 km, played in classical technique, do not follow the script beforehand: Justyna Kowalczyk in fact, used to take the lead in getting it to do the selection, proves lackluster since the first few meters, barely holding the tails of rivals and saying goodbye to immediately medals. At the rate of seven girls so technique come together: the Norwegian Bjoergen, Johaug and Weng, Niskanen and the Finnish Saarinen, Sweden's Kalla and Kowalczyk of Poland.
In the segment free technique Niskanen Kowalczyk and surrender immediately, leaving the way open for another five. Johaug fails to make selection tough climbs on the route to Sochi, so that even Saarinen, a phenomenon known not free technique, he manages to stay in the lead group. The race was decided on the last strappetto so when attacking Charlotte Kalla: resists - and with ridiculous ease - the only Marit Bjoergen, who comes in head on straight by dominating the final sprint. Silver for the Swedish bronze for Heidi Weng rule that Johaug and Saarinen in the last meters.
For this is Bjoergen win number 95 in his career, new record with regard to the Nordic disciplines (Ole Einar Bjoerndalen is stopped at 93 + 1 in the biathlon cross-country skiing), the third Olympic gold medalist and individual the fourth overall. Bjoergen is also undefeated in the main event in the skiathlon four editions (gold at the Vancouver Olympics, the World Championships in Oslo, at the World Championships in Val di Fiemme and today at the Olympics in Sochi). For Kalla, however, is the second individual Olympic medal after winning gold in Vancouver in the 10 km free technique. First medal at the Games instead for Heidi Weng, already bronze in this race last year at the World Championships in Val di Fiemme. For Norway therefore undergone a gold and a bronze to devote to the brother of Astrid Jacobsen, who died suddenly yesterday in mysterious circumstances.
Disappointment of the day Therese Johaug, wooden medal and inconsolable at the finish. The leader of the World Cup is still a pure talent who can redeem in the next few races away. Disappointing, but this was to be expected, even Justyna Kowalczyk, as mentioned in the segment ever in the race even more favorable to her. Surprising in the positive instead of Aino Kaisa Saarinen fifth place, so never in a ball skating for several years now.
Best Navy Blue Piller sixteenth, very good result compared with the forecasts of the vigil. So the other Italian: Debora Agreiter thirtieth, thirty-and forty-fourth Virginia Elisa Brocard De Martin Topranin. Tomorrow skiathlon male with departure at 11:00 am Italian.
