The doubts on the eve of who was the favorite for this relay were few and Norway did not betray the expectations. Thus conquered the fifth men's gold over the five disputed races. The Viking power has never been in doubt and today's gold confirms the amazing form of the interpreters Iversen, Sundby, Roethe, Klæbo. Silver to Russia who could not do anything against a Norway like that. The quartet composed of Larkov, Bessmertnykh, Bolshunov, Ustigov, however, managed to fight until the last one bringing home the second place. The bronze goes to a surprising France able to reassemble for most of the race and then play the medal in the final sprint. Transalpine formation formed by Backscheider, Manificat, Parisse, Jouve.
Difficult race due to the adverse weather conditions with rain on the track and therefore a difficult optimization of the materials. In the first fraction there were not too many surprises with the compact group in the first two laps. On the climb the Italian Rastelli tries to force the pace without making a selection, unlike the Russian Larkov who uses the last climb before the change to force the pace and thin the group.
Second Fraction, the most difficult both from the point of view of the protagonists and for the delicate moment of the race. The quintet formed by Norway, Finland, Russia, Sweden and France, turns into a threesome due to the change of pace of Sundby, Niksanen and Bessmertnykh.
With the third fraction also changes the technique that goes from classical to skating. It does not vary the trio in front with the Swedish Burman who tries everything to get on the head wasting a lot of energy. In front of Bolshunov, Heikkenen and Roethe consolidate the advantage. Meanwhile, the French Parisse overcomes the Swedish and leads to the pursuit of the first. In the last ascent Bolshunov and Roethe force the pace by detaching the Finnish Heikkenen.
In the last fraction with the pair change takes shape the fight for the medals, with the gold between Russia and Norway and the bronze between Finland and France. After a first moment of apparent control at the last lap Klæbo gains a few meters downhill without realizing it, then turns and sees Ustiugov in trouble a few meters and decides to sink the blow by changing the pace and sacrificing to victory for Norway. The battle for the bronze, very exciting, develops after a tactical surplace before the descent with the fastest French Jouve waiting for the final straight to beat the Finnish Hyvarinen and win the third place.
Negative day for the blues who already from the first fraction of Rastelli can not find the right rhythm to stay with the best. Pellegrino tries to recover by wasting a lot of energy that then they are missing in the change of pace by the former losing precious seconds. The last two fractions of Salvadori and De Fabiani do not change the race situation by continuing to lose ground inexorably. Italy closes tenth to 4''42 '' '' 7.
