If in qualification Klæbo had made clear signals to the opponents, dominating far and wide, in the two eliminating rounds he decided to keep a low profile and in both cases he did not want to exaggerate in the initial part and then make the difference in the very hard straight ''arrival.
In the final Bolshunov left immediately to the attack, making selection from the first ascent. The pace of the Russian, hunted by five Norge, was impressive and only Klæbo and Brandsdal remained hooked. Everything was decided in the last few meters, where Bolshunov paid the initial effort and had to settle for third place. Brandsdal, a specialist of this track, tried to play all his cards but nothing was worth it against the stunning performance of Klæbo, once again impressive with his uphill style.
Fourth position for the Norwegian Skar that preceded the countrymen Stadaas and Iversen. They stopped in the semi-finals Aune, Golberg, Riseth, the Swede Svensson, the Russian Panzhinskiy and Federico Pellegrino, brilliant in the final quarter but then never fighting for an access to the final. The athletes will be back on track Saturday for the legendary 50 km of Oslo Holmenkollen.
