For the sixteenth time the World Cup alpine skiing will kick off with the two giants, male and female, on the Rettenbach glacier in Sölden, an event that has become traditional for the White Circus on a track that in particular for women, despite the long final plan, it is very challenging because of the steep wall central.

The first time was on 30 and 31 October 1993 and then, after a brief alternating with the French resort of Tignes, since 2000, the World Cup makes a stop fixed in the Tyrolean resort. With two exceptions: in 2006, both races canceled, and in 2010, when the second round of the men's giant was canceled due to fog with Davide Simoncelli who had closed the first to third place. Therefore quest'' year, in the case of completion of both races, for women will be the sixteenth time and for men the fifteenth. The record holders of success are Hermann Maier and Tina Maze with three (and Saturday for the Slovenian could be poker), Anja Pärson and Kathrin Zettel went up on the podium four times as many as five and Ted Ligety, among other things'' in the last five issues being finalized. Do not forget that the races in Sölden were held twice for men and for women this year will be the third time'', October 26, National Day of Austria'': therefore a sporting event festive already in itself it becomes doubly for the Austrian fans.
