Prowinter Digital: the world of ski mountaineering under the magnifying glass at the Skimo Summit

Ski mountaineering records in winter 2020/2021 the best season ever: the closure of the ski lifts has prompted many skiers to approach a discipline that was previously considered tiring and difficult. The need for sector regulation and the need to train end users will be at the center of the Skimo Summit, organized on Monday 12 April at 11.00, as part of Prowinter Digital.

"We have great expectations for Prowinter Digital 2021: there will not be a physical fair but we now take for granted the resonance that the digital format can offer - declares Geraldine Coccagna, Prowinter Exhibition Manager - the agenda of the day is still being defined. but some speakers and topics have already been confirmed: naturally everything will be marked by topics that are dear to the mountain sector ». Skimo Summit, together with Probike Summit, is the real novelty of the 2021 digital edition. The closure of the lifts has led to the rediscovery of disciplines complementary to downhill skiing, which have prompted hirers to relocate their resources to new disciplines. Skimo Summit, on the wave of the success of ski mountaineering, will collect the testimonies of localities and charterers who consider this "ancient practice" as a fundamental part of the new offer. Institutions, companies and plant engineers are therefore ready to get involved and share their best practices, with the aim of finding a common and innovative solution to regulate ski mountaineering and educate users for a more sustainable and equipped mountain culture. A few names? ChristophEngl, CEO of Oberalp Group will provide some data of the research conducted on the growing outdoor segments, with a specific focus on ski mountaineering, analyzing the nature of the subjects who practice it, their objectives and the consequent new dimension of the discipline itself. And again: Luca Zeni, lawyer and councilor of the Province of Trento, will represent the public administration at the Skimo Summit, underlining, on the one hand, the importance of a legal regulation of the practice, to empower users and thus relieve plant operators from responsibilities not one's own; on the other hand, the need to activate a policy of incentives and contributions from local authorities, capable of rewarding operators who engage in safety discipline development projects. In support of the companies, Günther Acherer, President of the Italian Outdoor Group and owner of Panorama Diffusion will instead frame the tasks, objectives and initiatives that the association puts in place, sharing the importance of creating equipped areas dedicated to skialp , capable of promoting it without losing sight of the aspect of sustainability. Franco Torretta, Monterosa Ski Operations Manager (AO), will also report on the winning choice of cohabitation between piste skiers and ski mountaineers, put into practice in that area through the Monterosa Ski project, with three valleys connected to each other and over 10,000 users each. season. The debate will then continue with other speakers, addressing the side effects of the growth of the sector, its environmental impact and the issues related to safety in snow-covered areas other than those on the slopes, thus including the point of view of the renters who have been able to react quickly to positive signs of the start of the season, equipping themselves properly and responding adequately to a demand never so high.
