The National Association of Sporting Goods Manufacturers, which represents over 300 brands and 9,300 employees throughout Italy, is part of the discussion that is holding the bench in these hours on the intention of the government of Rome to close the ski resorts in our country. Assosport reiterates the need to keep attention on the serious economic effects that would fall on Italian companies in the snow world if the season that represents their main source of income were compromised.

“First of all, to protect the health of citizens. And this is not discussed. But at the same time - the request of the president of Assosport Anna Ferrino - to recognize that the mountain keeps the families on their feet, not just the managers of ski lifts or tour operators. Let's not forget the manufacturers of clothing, footwear and equipment for practicing snow sports, which focus their core business in this period. If the closure of the ski lifts must be, in order to cope with the huge economic damage that will follow, then methods aimed at restoring all the players in the long and complex supply chain are adopted. Nobody excluded. It is clear that the Ateco codes to identify the beneficiaries of the refreshments is a faulty system.
These are hours of great uncertainty - continues Ferrino - for small and large companies in the snow world, which are looking with concern and big questions at what will happen in Italy and in other countries. In order to clarify, we will participate in the table opened by FESI (the Federation of the European sporting goods industry) to dialogue with Brussels. We need a homogeneous vision of European scope ».
"There is much more at stake than a Sunday of leisure at the summit: the fate of an entire supply chain that works for the mountains and which lives thanks to the harvest in the snow season depends on the opening or closing of the ski resorts . Nobody talks about it, but entrepreneurs and traders are also part of this supply chain. If the shops do not sell today, with the warehouses full they will not buy the new collections and the economic repercussions as well as 2020 will also impact on the turnover of 2021 companies in the snow world "says Corrado Macincia, member of the Board of Directors of Assosport, general manager Head Italy-Mares Spa.
Another Assosport associate, Alberto Zanatta, president of Tecnica Group, one of the world's leading manufacturers of ski equipment with brands such as Tecnica, Nordica and Blizzard, agrees: "We understand the complexity of the situation, but right now we must think carefully about all the implications and repercussions that the Government's choices have on Italians immediately and on companies in the near future. It is right to consider the supply chain in the distribution of refreshment points and, why not, evaluate the right mix of refreshment points and localized openings where the necessary safety conditions are present ».
Italian companies are world leaders in the skiing sector. The closure of plants also in other European countries would therefore have an even greater impact.
* Assosport has 120 companies throughout Italy for over 300 brands, 9,300 employees, an aggregate turnover of almost 5 billion euros, equal to almost 40 percent of the total achieved in 2019 by the entire Italian sports industry.
