Komperdell and the choice of sustainability to create a more durable, high-performance product

1922 was the year when Komperdell was founded in Vienna. From the outset, the company specialised in designing and producing poles for skiing and hiking, as well as the protective gear needed to enjoy sport in complete safety. In the 1980s, its headquarters were moved to Mondsee, a town nestled in the enchanting Salzkammergut region that still serves as the company’s headquarters today. The issue of environmental sustainability, which has been central for around four decades, now focuses on the use of materials free from pollutants and partially recycled, processed using the most modern technologies powered by hydropower. This entire cycle takes place in Austria, making it possible to drastically reduce logistics and thereby save tonnes of CO₂. Following the mantra “Reduce, Repair, Recycle,” Komperdell poles are among the lightest available on the market, being made entirely from carbon and similar materials, and painted with water-based colours. They generally feature an ergonomic grip and a “zero waste” strap; a Powerlock 3.0 system made from 100% recycled aluminium that withstands heat, cold, damp and frost over the years; and a tip that is also fully recycled directly by the company. Naturally, specifications may differ depending on the category and sport selected: in alpine skiing, there is a “Racing” line—used, for example, by Sofia Goggia, Lucas Braathen Pinheiro and Petra Vlhova—comprising poles and leg and arm protection, as well as an “Alpine” line suited to less experienced users and a “Freeride/Touring” line for off-piste enthusiasts. There is also equipment for trekking, trail running and Nordic walking, while when it comes to protective gear, the range extends to include cycling and equestrian sports.

In every case, the result is a product of the highest quality, guaranteed for up to 3 years, lightweight but at the same time robust, stable and durable. But it is not only a matter of quality during the production phase; equal attention and care are devoted to a possible repair phase: whatever happens, Komperdell’s employees are entirely at your disposal to repair your poles, completing the cycle of sustainability.
