The pioneer of the cable car industry Artur Doppelmayr died 10 days ago at 95 years. The company bearing its name has confirmed it to the Austrian APA agency.

Doppelmayr was born on September 16, 1922 in Dornbirn, a town in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. At 33, after graduating in Graz, he entered the company founded by his grandfather in 1892 who worked in the lifts area since 1910 and built the first ski lift in 1937. Arthur began marketing and then after the death of his father Emil In 1967, became the sole owner of the company. Five years later he built the first gondola in Mellau, after which the company developed with 14800 installations in 91 countries.
In 2001, however, he was driven out of his company by his son who, against his will, wanted to merge with the Swiss firm Garaventa. Over the years he has held numerous roles within the Federation of Industrial and Chamber of Commerce and has also been a member of the Steering Board of the Tyrol and Vorarlberg and has received numerous awards both locally and nationally. His last years have spent a good time in Carinthia.
