"Dear Rider" - Jake Burton Carpenter's Life Documentary Trailer

DEAR RIDER, a documentary from Red Bull Media House and Emmy®-winning director Fernando Villena, is a celebration of the life and vision of Jake Burton Carpenter (1954-2019), famous for turning the sport of snowboarding into a global phenomenon and cultural. The film will be available in digital download from 24 January 2022.

The intimate and revealing documentary features interviews with Jake's family, friends and snowboarding buddies, including snowboarding icons Shaun White, Kelly Clark and Mark McMorris, as well as a substantial amount of archival material and footage private. DEAR RIDER pays homage to Jake's beloved "riders", the audience he has faithfully addressed every year, for decades, on the front page of his snowboard company catalogs. Narrating the different passages of the film, acclaimed actor Woody Harrelson, a close friend of Jake.Inspired by the Snurfer, a surf-like wooden board, Jake created his first snowboard in 1977 as a cheap alternative to skis. From that time on, he devoted himself to developing ever more versatile boards, encouraging world-class ski resorts, sponsors and athletes to undertake what the media dubbed "the worst new sport." By the late 1990s, Jake's vision had catapulted the punk culture of snowboarding across the globe onto the global competitive sports scene - the Olympics. But as Jake and his company Burton thrived in the new century, the entrepreneur was forced to fight two serious health problems: Miller Fisher syndrome, a rare nerve disorder, and cancer, which he lost his battle against in 2019. Jake's memory lives on throughout the snowboarding community today, and his wife Donna Carpenter remains at the helm of the family business. DEAR RIDER is a Red Bull Media House production, directed by Fernando Villena; produced by Ben Bryan and Clark Fyans; edited by Rose Corr and Fernando Villena.DEAR RIDER is available on Digital Download from January 24, 2022
