A modernization already announced for some time, in the 2026 Olympic Games key, with the works ready to start and end in November 2025, three months from the big appointment.
Bormio will host the men's competitions of the Italian five-circle edition and there will be a real "Ski Arena" to complete a Stelvio that needed an important intervention, the one defined by the Lombardy Region with the resolution approved by the Regional Council upon proposal by the councilor for infrastructure, transport and sustainable mobility, Claudia Maria Terzi, in concert with the councilor for mountains, local authorities and small municipalities, Massimo Sertori.
As reported by "Sondrio Today", 19.6 million euros have been allocated by the Lombardy Region, but specifically a ski stadium will be built at the foot of the track tamed 7 times by Dominik Paris, as well as a new parking area with an attached cycle / pedestrian path; the total investment envisaged by the provision will be 21.3 million euros, given that 1 million and 675 thousand euros will come from the Municipality of Bormio.
The project involves the construction of a permanent grandstand in the finish area, as well as the renovation of the former departure building for the ski lifts. The second package of financed interventions consists in the construction of the new Porta car park and a cycle / pedestrian path connecting the car park and the existing network, including a footbridge over the Frodolfo stream. “Thanks to the works financed by the Lombardy Region - the words of Undersecretary Antonio Rossi - what is already today one of the most beautiful and technical descents of the World Cup, will become a real dream track.
The future Ski Stadium with the new grandstands on arrival and the related works will, in fact, increase the charm of the Stelvio, bringing it to the absolute top in the world ski panorama. An excellence in winter sports capable of ensuring high level Games and guaranteeing an irresistible tourist-sporting attraction for the years to come for thousands and thousands of ski enthusiasts from all over the planet ".
