In recent days, the Austrian Olympic Committee has published a feasibility study regarding the Innsbruck nomination for the Winter Olympics 2026. The spending forecast is incredibly low, as it is worth up to 1.2 billion euros.

By losing the crazy costs of Sochi 2014 ($ 51 billion), it is thought that Vancouver 2010 had a total cost of $ 6.4 billion, which is five times higher than expected by Austria for its candidacy.
How is this all possible? Simply because there are already 77% of the facilities that would be used for a possible third edition of the Olympic Games in Innsbruck, after those of 1964 and 1976. Missing ones would be temporary. Consequently there would be no need to build anything new.
The current project involves the involvement of the whole territory of Tyrol, with some "overlaps" in Bavaria. The ceremonies will be held at the Tivoli Stadion.
As for snow sports, Alpine skiing would take place in St.Anton, Nordic disciplines between Seefeld and Bergiselschanze, the biathlon at Hochfilzen, while Küthai would be the base of snowboarding and freestyle (with the exception of Big Air , Who would dispute in the city in Innsbruck).
At ice sports, the will is to play in Innsbruck figure skating, short track (both in Olympia), curling (Tiroler Wasserkraft Arena) and hockey finals. The rest of the hockey would be distributed in various cities, including Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and Bolzano. Another point to contain costs is the athletes 'and technicians' housing, which would be decentralized throughout Tyrol, without having to build a true Olympic village.
The Austrian government has already guaranteed its support for the candidacy, which - in all probability - will have to pass a final test. It is a popular referendum, to be held on 15 October, at the same time as parliamentary elections. The last word, then, will be for the Tyroleans.
At the time, the nominations for the 2026 Winter Olympics are three. In addition to Innsbruck (Austria), there are also those in Zion (Switzerland) and Calgary (Canada). Other places that have expressed interest in the event (Lillehammer, Erzurum, Milan) are still at the mere stage of intent, if not even boutade.
