Mauro, first ski disabled in Italian: "Now dream of bringing the culture of disability in schools skiing"

He has always struggled to fulfill his dream in the drawer that holds since he was a child and now has done it. Mauro Bernardi, 36 years of Albino, paraplegic due to a car accident, is from a few days became the first disabled ski instructor in Italy who can teach this discipline to the disabled. Mauro has in fact attended a skiing course on measure of the duration of two years consists of about 840 hours per Snowsport Academy San Marino divided into three modules (Entry Level, Standard Level and Top Level) and thanks to the Regional Councillor Lara Gizzards, silver medal in slalom at the World Championships in Sestriere in 1997 , and across the board, the motion was passed unanimously that will lead to official recognition of the title of disabled ski instructor that teaches disabled to ski using exactly the same supports and aids.

How did your dream of becoming a ski instructor? He was born when I was a child, I was about 7/8 years. My brother in law did rescue ski and Sunday took me with him teaching me the basics of skiing. When I started skiing a little 'alone, I accompanied my father, but only for an hour because the ski pass cost much. I was willing to ski for such a short time rather than play football and being with friends. How much effort did you face and sacrifices to achieve this goal? Several sacrifices. I was director of a company selling aids for the disabled that, even though I had a guaranteed salary, I had to leave when I decided to take the training to become a ski instructor. When I started the course I did not know if at the end I had an official recognition so did not know if what I was doing would give me a salary tomorrow because no one had given me assurances. The only guarantee was the sacrifice to give up work and invest time, money and family especially since, when I started, my son Peter had just been born. When I went out to ski, I had to look for hotels that have affordable prices. If you do not avessiprovato to chase my dream, I would forever regret. Have you ever thought about giving up? Give up the course not, but I always had the doubt if one day I could teach or not. The training course was giving me great charge and many stimuli, made me grow up, I have improved, I am calmer, I became a person who reflected more and searching for the right words and correct when speaking with others. I learned information and notions that did not know, then I found out the hard way that you never stop learning. Who were your reference points that you have always supported me during these years of training? Surely my wife Claudia, my guardian angels and I believe in the Lord very much. Claudia and I pray a lot and we always make the right choice. Have supported me so much even my family and that of my wife who have always told us to be present in every case. At the technical level, however, helped me a lot Sulsente Corrado, director of Snowsport Academy San Marino, and Stefano Belingheri together with all the staff and teachers. The next winter season can already begin to teach. Have you already thought about what school you would like to work to convey your passion for skiing? I do not want to prefer one school over another. Shall devote my work in the valleys where it will called by offering my skills, my passion, my enthusiasm. I'll be a traveling, I will ski instructor trying to bring the culture of disability and my experience in the ski schools. So now what is your main goal? The first objective is to convey this desire work, the culture and the strength to others with disabilities. Make them understand that in sports you can find many stimuli even if they can not lead the life that they once did. The second is to work with institutions to help the establishment of training courses to become a ski instructor disabled and therefore of real professionals. The goal is certainly ambitious to be able to ensure that there is at least a disabled person at a school in every ski resort. What advice would you like to give people with disabilities who are in your same situation? "It 's nice to dream of a better life is just groped to do it seriously for even a second not to consume and feel that I am part of the world" is a phrase of a song by Nek that helps me molto.Consiglio to open up and create a new path, a new profession, without fear, because you're never alone. Fear is right that there is, but it must win over our choices. And above all, to get help because there are so many people who are willing to give us a hand. Do not give up.
