Frabosa Soprana

The local ski area offers around 20 km of alpine skiing pistes, spread between the village at 900 metres and the approximately 1,750 metres of Monte Moro and Malanotte. The runs are mainly red and are aimed above all at intermediate skiers: the descents feature interesting gradients, changes of pace and several sections through the woods. There are also easier pistes for those learning to ski, as well as the famous Muro di Malanotte, the resort’s most technical and challenging section.

Frabosa Soprana retains a traditional-style lift system. Its symbol is the historic single-seat chairlift on Monte Moro, one of the oldest lifts still in operation in Italy, built in the 1950s and authorised to resume service after the checks carried out in 2023. The two-seat Malanotte chairlifts, built in the late 1990s, make it possible to overcome much of the vertical drop and reach the sector linked to Prato Nevoso. The lifts are not as fast as those at more modern resorts, but they form an important part of Frabosa’s identity and skiing history.

The Malanotte-Prel chairlift provides the ski-in/ski-out connection with Prato Nevoso. Once you reach the basin of the neighbouring resort, you can continue towards Artesina, considerably expanding the possibilities offered by Frabosa alone. The entire Mondolé Ski area officially has more than 130 km of downhill pistes, accessible with a shared ski pass.

The connection is the resort’s main added value: it allows you to start from an authentic and relatively quiet village and reach Prato Nevoso’s wider, sunnier pistes, the Snowpark, night skiing and Artesina’s higher sectors. However, the connecting runs may depend on snow and wind conditions; before setting out on the Mondolé circuit, it is therefore advisable to check that Malanotte is operating and confirm the opening times of the lifts needed for the return journey.

The lower pistes’ limited altitude makes Frabosa more dependent on natural and machine-made snow than Prato Nevoso and Artesina. On favourable days, however, the runs descending from Monte Moro offer a significant vertical drop and enjoyable skiing that is more technical and less crowded than the central pistes in the ski area. The resort is particularly suitable for families with children who are already able to ski independently and for intermediate skiers; complete beginners will find larger learning areas at the other Mondolé resorts.

Frabosa has played an important role in the development of skiing in Piedmont: as early as 1948, the first Monte Moro chairlift was considered one of the longest in Europe, while in 1970 the Malanotte gondola lift was inaugurated, among the first semi-automatic detachable lifts in Italy. This tradition still sets the resort apart from the more recent surrounding resorts.

In summer, Frabosa Soprana offers walks through the woods, hiking excursions, mountain bike and e-bike routes and, during certain periods, the operation of the Mongrosso-Burrino and Monte Moro chairlifts. Families can enjoy the Frabolandia playground, while nearby, the spectacular Bossea Caves are well worth a visit; they are one of the main natural attractions of the Monregalese valleys.
