Macugnaga, on the slopes of the Monta Moro football match between Italy and Switzerland

Yesterday, Sunday 24 March, Macugnaga hosted the Italy-Switzerland football match on the slopes of Mount Moro, at 2800 meters above sea level.

The objective of the initiative was the promotion of tourism in small mountain centers. The Azzurri in the field were selected from the local amateur footballers by Aldo Noce, promoter of the event with the Bergdorf Italia association chaired by Franco Piantanida. The Swiss team was led by Matteo Andermatt, a former player of the Swiss national team of the 1980s. The day started at 10 am with guests welcome and representatives from the authorities in the Town Hall Square. A small aperitif taken care of by the Pro loco of Macugnaga and then on by cable car for the game that began at 12.30 with the first football to the ball given by Fabian Furrer, President of the European organizing committee for mountain countries. The match was won by Switzerland 2-1. The Swiss had already won in 2017 on the slopes of Monte Moro. The next edition will be held in 2020 in Gspon, in the Canton of Valais.
