A tragedy that hit everyone's heart that happened this morning with the fall of a cabin of the Stresa-Mottarone cable car.

A tragedy that has also shaken the sensitivity of the top government including the President of the Council of Ministers, Mario Draghi, who expressed his state of mind with these words: "I learned with deep sorrow the news of the tragic accident of the cable car Stresa - Mottarone. I express the condolences of the whole Government to the families of the victims, with a special thought addressed to the children who were seriously injured and to their families ”.
Unfortunately, it was recently disclosed that one of the two children, aged 9, did not make it and died after being transported in red code to the Regina Margherita hospital in Turin.
The Prime Minister is following the updates with the Minister of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility Enrico Giovannini, with the Civil Protection and with the local authorities.
There were also words of condolence from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella: “The tragic accident at the Stresa-Mottarone cable car arouses deep pain for the victims and great apprehension for those who are struggling for life in these hours. I express the participation of all of Italy to the affected families and communities in mourning. These sentiments are flanked by the call for strict compliance with all safety regulations for all conditions concerning the transport of people ".
According to what is learned from the Ansa agency, the carrying cable broke off at the height of the last pillar and the car fell off rolling downstream and ending up against the trees. The other cables, on the other hand, are not damaged. The failure occurred 300 meters from the top of the mountain where the arrival station is.
The cabin was carrying at least 15 people and there are currently 14 victims.
