After a winter season closed early due to the coronavirus, the question many are asking is whether it will be possible to return to skiing this summer at the Stelvio.
At the moment, however, there is no news on the opening of the plants and hotels scheduled for June, as also confirmed by the Director of Sifas (Stelvio cableway company) Umberto Capitani: “We are waiting for the new decree to decide on the opening of the Stelvio summer ski season. The Stelvio is an anomalous station compared to other resorts as it is the only ski resort to open only in summer. So the hope is to be able to work. If we were to open, a different job will be done compared to the past seasons. It is difficult now to make assessments or hypotheses, but surely there would be restrictions to be adopted. Suffice it to say that in other stations already this winter, before closing, the capacity of people at the plants had been reduced. Our cable car carries about 650 people per day, this number could be reduced to 2/3 or even half. The Stelvio has always been a point of reference for World Cup and European Cup winter sports athletes. So we'll also have to figure out whether to prioritize them. "
