San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero, Valle del Vanoi

The ski area offers a total of 60 km of slopes, between elevations of 1,404 and 2,357 metres. Around 45 km are located around San Martino di Castrozza, in the Tognola-Ces and Colverde sectors, while a further 15 km are found at Passo Rolle. The two areas are part of the same ski domain and use the same lift pass, but for the 2026/2027 season Passo Rolle will remain accessible from the town by car or ski bus.

The resort’s skiing hub is the Carosello delle Malghe, made up of the Alpe Tognola and Ces sectors, which are linked on skis. The Colbricon Express, Cima Tognola and Cigolera lifts, together with the Valcigolera gondola, allow skiers to move quickly between the two sides. The slopes are predominantly red, wide and well groomed, making them ideal for intermediate skiers who enjoy covering many kilometres without encountering excessively difficult sections.

Alpe Tognola offers some of the longest and most panoramic runs in the ski area. Tognola Uno descends towards the valley floor along a varied and sporty route, while the Rododendro, Cigolera and Cima Tognola slopes alternate steep sections, changes in gradient and more flowing stretches. On the Ces side, the Colbricon, Valboneta and Kristiania slopes pass through dense forests and are enjoyable even on days with poor visibility. The Carosello delle Malghe’s food-and-wine route also allows skiers to alternate skiing with stops at the numerous mountain huts and restaurants.

The lift network has been extensively modernised in recent years with the Colbricon Express and Valcigolera gondolas and the six-seater Cigolera chairlift. For the 2026/2027 winter, the new automatic six-seater Scandola–Tognazza chairlift will make its debut, equipped with protective bubbles and able to transport up to 2,650 people per hour. The new lift replaces the two old three-seater Conca and Scandola chairlifts, significantly reducing journey times and serving an area with wide, sunny blue slopes, upgraded runs and a new funslope.

Closer to the town is the Colverde sector, accessible by gondola and characterised by short but panoramic slopes, some of which are lit during dedicated night-skiing evenings. From the gondola’s top station, the Rosetta cable car climbs to the Pale plateau at around 2,700 metres. The cable car does not serve regular groomed alpine-skiing slopes, but provides an exceptional gateway to the views, snowshoe excursions and ski-mountaineering routes.

The ski area offers options for every level. Beginners have the Prà delle Nasse, Tognola and Passo Rolle nursery slopes; intermediate skiers will find the best selection on the many red slopes of the Carosello delle Malghe. Those looking for more demanding runs can tackle Tognola Uno, Kristiania and the more technical variants on Ces. The presence of funslopes, children’s areas and ski schools also makes San Martino a destination well suited to families.

Around eight kilometres from the town, Passo Rolle offers 15 km of slopes between 1,900 and 2,357 metres, in a setting dominated by Cimon della Pala. The high elevation and aspect favour good snow cover and often allow the season to open early. The more accessible slopes are located towards Baita Segantini and Castellazzo, while on the Cavallazza side, the FIS-homologated black Paradiso offers more technical skiing. Some of the pass’s lifts are less modern and slower than those in the Carosello delle Malghe, but the slopes are generally uncrowded and the landscape makes the journey worthwhile.

The new San Martino-Passo Rolle cableway connection is under construction. It is intended to eliminate the road transfer and bring the various sectors together into a single ski circuit. According to the official schedule, completion of the connection is planned for December 2027; until then, Passo Rolle should be considered a separate section, connected to San Martino via the pass road and the ski-bus service.

For cross-country skiing, the area offers the Nordic centres of Passo Cereda, Imèr, Val Canali and Lago di Calaita, in the nearby Valle del Vanoi. Passo Cereda has the most technical trails, also used for competitions, while Val Canali and Calaita focus more on the scenery. The winter offering is completed by snowshoe routes, ski mountaineering, snow walks and skating.

In summer, San Martino di Castrozza is one of the main starting points for exploring the Pale di San Martino. The Tognola, Colbricon, Colverde and Rosetta lifts facilitate hikes, via ferrata routes and high-altitude traverses; Alpe Tognola is also home to the San Martino Bike Arena, with downhill and mountain-bike trails. Among the best-known destinations are the Pale plateau, Val Canali, Val Venegia, Baita Segantini and the Colbricon lakes, all set within one of Trentino’s most evocative natural environments.
