After the lockdown, work resumed for the construction of the "Matterhorn glacier ride II", a work that is part of the Alpine X project, thanks to which for the first time it will be possible to make an alpine crossing by cable car at any time of the year .

The plant, which will connect Testa Grigia and Piccolo Cervino on the Swiss side, will be ready for the 2021/2022 winter season and will be built by the Leitner ropeways company in Vipiteno for a cost of 5 million Swiss francs. It is the highest crossing in the Alps at 3,800 meters high.

The construction of the "Matterhorn glacier ride II" required a tailor-made solution, suitable for difficult conditions. The greater wind stability of the three-wire system allows the span of about 1.7 kilometers between the two stations to do without the supports. And precisely because of the confined spaces, a smaller drive station is used upstream. The station allows entry and exit of the cabins with a running speed of 5m / s, so it is possible to slow down or accelerate the cab before it reaches the station. This way you can reduce the energy requirement of the mountain station, which among other things stands just behind the mountain station of the cable car built two years ago by Leitner ropeways, thus repeating the record for the highest three-wire system in the world. .
The cabins, designed by Pininfarina, offer travelers heated leather seats on which they can admire the alpine scenery through the panoramic windows. Those looking for luxury and adventure can book, always between Testa Grigia and the Piccolo Cervino, the Crystal ride cabins. The plant will be able to transport up to 1300 people per hour.
