The "father" of snowboarding has died: Jake Burton Carpenter defeated by the disease at 65 years

A very serious loss strikes the whole movement of the table: the one who in '77 changed the history of the sport has disappeared.

The snowboard world mourns Jake Burton Carpenter, the father of a discipline that, thanks to his genius, has become global. At 65, the American entrepreneur was defeated by the disease which, as early as 2011, hit him with a testicular tumor; just about ten days ago, Burton had sent a letter to his employees to reveal that the cancer had returned. The confirmation came today from the officials of the company he founded, Burton Snowboards, a leading company that brought snowboarding on the slopes of the whole world: Burton left his job in New York to found the company that took the lead from his first table, perfected in a Vermont house in 1977, a dozen years after the first Sherman Poppen creations. Twenty-one years later, in 1998, at the Winter Olympic Games, Burton's dream of seeing "his" sport become part of the most important sporting event came true.
