Biathlon: Julia Simon queen of the Oberhof Mass Start, bitter sixth place for Wierer

Dorothea Wierer dominates the Oberhof Mass Start for three quarters of the race but is forced to raise the white flag after two errors at the last polygon. The French Julia Simon takes advantage while the blue manages to precede the Norwegians Roeiseland and Eckhoff.

After a quiet first lap Preuss, Roeiseland, Hanna Oeberg, Braisaz, Herrmann make a mistake and Lisa Vittozzi made two mistakes. Among the 13 who scored a 5/5 the fastest is Dorothea Wierer who finds herself leading the platoon with Julia Simon, Tiril Eckhoff and Elvira Oeberg. Dorothea is also perfect in the second session and faces the third round with the Norwegian Knotten, Hanna Oeberg, Marketa Davidova and Tandrevold. A mistake for Eckhoff and Simon who find themselves at 25 seconds, Roeiseland (8/10) is 45 ahead of Elvira Oeberg, Denise Herrman and Lisa Vittozzi all with 80% shooting. Wierer is the only one not to be wrong between the 5 heads, Hanna Oeberg who misses once is at 23.5, Davidova at 33.3 with the comebacks Hauser and Mironova. Vittozzi is also making no mistake, rising to eighth position at 46.1. Three errors for Eckhoff who slips to one minute and 20, 15 seconds from Mars Roeiseland. Dorothea can manage the fourth round but misses the third and fifth targets, they all miss and from behind she finds herself in the lead Julia Simon (17/20) with Preuss (18/10) at 3 seconds, Wierer (18/20) at 5.6 with Hauser (17/20), Brorsson (19/20) at 7.5 and Tandrevold (18/20) at 8.8. Lisa Vittozzi is wrong twice as she slips down. In the last lap Franziska Preuss and Julia Simon leave while Wierer feels the blow and is also overtaken by Hanna Oeberg (17/20). Julia Simon wins with 3.9 on Preuss; third Hanna Oeberg at 11.7, fourth Tandrevold at 13.0, fifth Brorsson (14.9) and only sixth Wierer at 28.8 who resisted the return of Roeiseland (16/20) and Eckhoff (16/20). Lisa Vittozzi is seventeenth at 1.12.9.
