At 15:00 the start of the opening race of the Pokljuka 2021 World Championships. The "new" Italy, full of news in formation, aims to confirm itself on the podium, presenting itself as vice world champion after the silver in Anterselva and in open streak of three medals in the last rounds between the World Cup and the Olympics.

In a competition context where shooting speed could make the difference, Italy fielded Didier Bionaz at the launch, at his world debut, who in fact took the place of Dominik Windisch. Following in a second stellar stage is Lukas Hofer, with Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi in the two final stages. An unprecedented role is that of sappadina, which until now had always been deployed at launch. Despite the news, the blue quartet presents itself at the start with legitimate medal ambitions.

The two world champion Norway starts with the underdogs and a quartet apparently clearly superior to the competition, with Laegreid at the launch and followed by Johannes Boe, Eckhoff and Roeiseland. Behind the Scandinavians five nations (including Italy) start with the aim of getting on the podium: France, winner last year on the slopes of Pokljuka in the World Cup; Russia, first in the only previous season in Oberhof; Germany led by veterans Lesser and Peiffer; Sweden, who left Elvira Oeberg on the bench to field Linn Persson.
