The sun greeted the women's pursuit at Le Grand Bornand after the bad weather of recent days and the ice of the men's race in the morning for a very open race in the light of the surprises reserved by yesterday's Sprint.
The Swedish Magnusson starts first, preceding her compatriot Linn Persson, Denise Herrmann, the young woman of the house Sophie Chauveau, Eder and Lisa Vittozzi, all in the space of half a minute.
In the first positions they all wear the same materials which in the men's race heavily penalized Johannes Boe and Quentin Fillon Maillet and so Lisa Vittozzi and Julia Simon quickly halved the gap from the first from the start and closed it before entering the shooting range. Dorothea Wierer also finds herself less than half a minute away.
They make no mistake and Elvira Oeberg, Lisa Vittozzi, Magnusson, Persson and Chauveau come out together; Julis Simon is only 9 seconds away. Herrmann who completes a penalty lap finds himself 26 seconds behind and Wierer is also wrong, fifteenth at 45 seconds.
Taking advantage of the difference in materials, Elvira Oeberg and Lisa Vittozzi go hunted by Julia Simon who hooks up with the couple entering the second session on land. Simon and Elvira Oeberg are not wrong while there are two mistakes by Vittozzi who finds himself 44 seconds away in sixth position with Herrmann. Tandrevold (10/10) is second at 12.2, Chauveau (10/10) at 29.5, Magnusson (10/10) at 42.4. Wierer is not wrong who is ninth at 53.4 with Linn Persson.
The two heads show up together at the first polygon standing: Simon opens badly and pays a penalty round and Elvira Oeberg leaves with a 15 second lead over Simon. An error also arrives for Tandrevold who goes out at 34 seconds, 8 ahead of Lisa Vittozzi while Wierer also makes no mistake and is fifth at one minute.
In the fourth lap, Oeberg struggles and the World Cup leader, Julia Simon, gets closer. Last polygon, as always, decisive. Elvira Oeberg is not wrong for the first victory of the season while there are two mistakes by Julia Simon like Tandrevold. Vittozzi made no mistake as he came out in second place 31 seconds behind Vittozzi and the Sappada rider had a 14 second lead over Julia Simon. Tandrevold is at 1.12.9, Persson at 1.38.4 and Wierer after two errors, sixth at 1.46.1.
Elvira Oeberg (0-0-0-0) repeats her victory in the Pursuit of Le Grand Bornand last year and climbs the top step of the podium for the fifth time. At the finish line the Swede precedes by 20.4 seconds Lisa Vittozzi (0-2-0-0), the best on skis today. Third podium for Julia Simon (0-0-1-2) at 46.9, fourth Tandrevold (0-0-1-2) at 1.19.9. Dorothea Wierer (1-0-0-2) at 1.51.9 is fifth, Linn Persson (0-1-0-0) at 1.56.1 is sixth. The great disappointment of the day Denise Herrmann (1-0-1-1) is seventh at 1.57.8, eighth Sophie Chauveau (0-0-1-1) at 2.02.7, ninth Anais Chevalier (1-1-1- 1) at 2.33.7, Preuss tenth (0-0-2-0) at 2.37.6.
Samuela Comola (0-1-0-2) is still in the points, twenty-eighth at 4.03.3 while Hanna Auchentaller (1-0-2-0) closes her first Pursuit in fiftieth position at 5.29.8.
