A few hours after the gold of Dorothea Wierer, Italy won the second world title thanks to an amazing test by Dominik Windisch.

The first part of the race was very tactical. In the initial round, no one took the initiative and the pace was rather bland. Also at the shooting range the selection was limited, so much so that 18 athletes found the "zero". Among those who had to move towards the penalty ring were the French Fillon Maillet, Guigonnat and Fourcade, the Swede Samuelsson and Dominik Windisch.
Even in the second round there was great balance. In command of the operations, Johannes Bø was brought in, which imposed a regular step for the group. However, the range was more selective than the first and nine athletes remained in the lead. Lukas Hofer slipped instead of several positions, imprecise three times.
During the third round, under the impulse of Simon Desthieux, five athletes went on the run. The Bø, Arnd Peiffer and Julian Eberhard brothers have remained on the French tails. The third series was fatal to all the leading athletes, who made at least a couple of mistakes. The race was therefore completely reopened and to take advantage of it was Evgeniy Garanichev, who came out of the range with about twenty seconds of margin on Christiansen and Pidruchnyi.
Having missed two targets in the first standing series, Johannes Bø unleashed all the horses of his formidable engine and at an incredible pace he reached the tread, which preceded him by half a minute. Everything was therefore decided at the last polygon, where the two committed four and five errors respectively.
Among the top ten the only one to find the "zero" was Dominik Windisch, who led the race with a large margin over Simon Eder and Antonin Guigonnat.
In the last round, the Italians had no problems keeping their pursuers away and for Italy the second gold arrived in a few hours. The silver went to Guigonnat who beat Julian Eberhard in the sprint.
