Some of the athletes of the Canadian bobsleigh and luge federation have proposed the resignations of Sarah Storey and Chris Le Bihan, president and director of the same federation respectively.
The tense climate as indicated in the letter sent by the athletes is due to a "toxicity" and culture within the BCS (Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton), following the death of Kaillie Humphries who became American in 2019.
The athletes in their CBC interview are afraid of retaliation from the federation if they decide to speak which could result in the loss of their position in the national and Olympic team. In fact, the athletes would not have faith in the Canadian federation with the aim of changing theirs and the future of the federation for the better. By itself when the federation investigated the complaints, the athletes claimed that the resolution to those issues was inadequate.
Furthermore, within the letter they affirm a lack of timeliness and the way in which these problems are addressed to the detriment of their safety. If in the case of Humphries it was a question of harassment, in the case of the collective there is the Beijing adventure in which the athletes trained without the presence of a coach, adding that during the selection of the national team the tests were postponed by a week. unbeknownst to the athletes themselves who were already there.
In response, the Canadian bobsleigh and skeleton federation said it appreciated the athletes in putting forward ideas and issues with a view to examining and addressing them in scheduled meetings.
Canada closed the Olympic event with two bronzes in the four-man bob and the women's monobob, while the former Humphries took home the Olympic gold.
