The first matches in Group B of the women's ice hockey tournament of the Sochi Olympics saw the victories of Sweden and Russia against Japan and Russia respectively.

No surprises in the match between Sweden and Japan, with the Scandinavian but it does not go beyond a narrow victory. The goal scored by Jenni Asserholt the thirteenth minute of the first period seemed to pave their way to a resounding success, whereas the Swedes fail to beat further the defense of Japan, which in turn is unable to create problems for opponents. One to zero is therefore the final result, with Sweden taking undergone three points clear at the optical qualifying for the quarter-finals on the same Japan and Germany, beaten by Russia.
Although the end result of four to one, however, was not an easy win as the master of the house after the zero to zero with which closes the first period, they are in fact the Germans took the lead after six minutes of surprise the second portion of the game thanks to a goal by Franziska Busch. The situation shakes the Russian unable to equalize until the fifth minute of the third period when the score by Iva Gavrilova paves the way of the comeback: in the space of five minutes in fact Russia going to sign three more times with Olga Sosina (second and fourth goal) and Yekaterina Smolentseva.
The situation in Group B sees, therefore, Sweden and Germany at three points, Japan and Germany to zero. It should be noted that the formula of the women's hockey tournament is expected that the top two teams in Group A will qualify directly for the semi-finals, while the first and second Group B clash against respectively the fourth and third in Group A in the playoffs semi-finals.
