It is often said that qualifying is relatively important, but in the case of a track like Sankt Moritz they count... all right, especially if Thursday's, the second and last one on the schedule, is highly at risk due to worsening weather.
The big names have pushed and the result of the opening training of the five days in the Engadine, with a triptych of races scheduled from Friday, with the first of the two scheduled descents, up to the super-g on Sunday, says that Sofia Goggia has edge over all rivals.
Much more than in Lake Louise, the holder of the World Cup in this specialty makes a vacuum, signing the first or second half in every partial except the fourth (up to a minute of the race, before the most technical stretch, she was simply unattainable) ; the runner-up is Tamara Tippler, the only one to remain not too far away, with a disadvantage of 43 cents. Another Austrian, Stephanie Venier, pays 91, then by Jasmine Flury, 1"26 from Sofia, they are all quite close with the first Swiss who precedes by two cents Mikaela Shiffrin, who definitely comes out with good results from her seasonal debut in speed.

The Aosta Valley finishes ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami (+ 1"38), who in turn anticipates Breezy Johnson, even if the American jumped a door just before the final schuss and objectively still seems to be in trouble.
In a handkerchief, from 1"58 to 1"66 behind Goggia, Weidle, Schmidhofer (watch out for Nicole, she is slowly coming back...), Corinne Suter who could be forced to defend herself here, as well as Gauche, Haehlen and Raedler.

Alla Gazzetta dello Sport, il direttore tecnico della nazionale femminile ha aggiunto qualche dettaglio sui motivi del rientro anticipato di Sofia dal Sudamerica, rinunciando al blocco in Cile che era previsto dopo quanto di buono fatto per due settimane abbondanti a Ushuaia specialmente sul gigante. Nelle prossime ore gli accertamenti medici: Non li abbiamo fatti in Argentina perchè non c'era la possibilità di approfondire al meglio.
