In the storm of a third seasonal descent with a thousand thrills, the feud of Sankt Moritz is confirmed as such for the Italjet.
In this case in the queen discipline, even if today's race, shortened by 20 seconds precisely because of the weather conditions in the Engadine, was closer to a super-g and, not surprisingly, one of the best interpreters in this sense went to take success.
Elena Curtoni gives herself the third victory in CdM, the second downhill after Bansko 2020: in that case it was an Italian hat-trick with Bassino and Brignone, this time "only" a brace with Sofia Goggia second at 29 cents from her teammate.
Of course, the Valtellinese started with number 2 when the snowfall was decidedly less dense than the post-interruption that took place just before Goggia's departure, due to a blow remedied by an employee on the track, but on the more technical stretch it enchanted: the champion Bergamo, on the other hand, missed the trio and victory number 20 in CdM to reach Federica Brignone at the top of the ranking of the multiple Italian winners, but what courage and quality in a second place that was very difficult to conquer in those conditions, also considering that the 20 seconds in less than the race have definitely penalized Goggia, always very fast at the top in the test days.
Then the thrill upon his arrival, with Sofia exclaiming "I broke my hand": the impact with the post took place at the third goal and the fears for the left hand, immediately bandaged, are concrete even if only the slabs to be carried out shortly they will tell us if the problem is serious.
The podium of a day of battle is completed by Corinne Suter, in the fourth top 3 in as many seasonal speed races, with 73 cents behind Curtoni and a tenth of a margin over her compatriot Jasmine Flury, who makes good use of bib number 1 to seize the fourth square.
Then in the standings here are Breezy Johnson, fifth, and Federica Brignone sixth at 1”27, a half-masterpiece by the Aosta Valley player who started with number 21 when the fog was now… total.
