The impressions of the Azzurri after the last test towards the triptych of Sankt Moritz at the start on Friday with the first of the two descents, where 7 Italjet girls will be. Curtoni: "I feel at home here, I can do well".
Thursday 15 December 2022 6 minutes reading time
The best time of Sofia Goggia, with over a second ahead of her first pursuers, from Gut-Behrami to Mowinckel, but also a perky Elena Curtoni (even if today she missed a door and her 7th time trial counts up to a certain point ) and the feeling that Federica Brignone can go back to fighting for at least one top ten.
These are the three points of the women's national team in view of the first descent of Sankt Moritz, scheduled for Friday starting at 10.30 (even if the weather is worrying, with snow on the way), after what we saw in the two test days on the 'Engadine. There will be seven blue girls on the track, given that in addition to Roberta Melesi, in the end Marta Bassino also decided to preserve herself towards the weekend, aiming above all at the super-g on Sunday, who will therefore miss race-1.
“I still did two or three bends a little too abundant, but overall they were two harmonious races, I feel satisfied – Goggia told fisi.org, she who is aiming for the seasonal trio to further strengthen the red bib and also get close to the top of the general – I just try to do my own route, ski as well as I can, this is why I work and commit myself so much.
I think I'm also strong in super-G, I've won races in the past and up until what happened in Cortina I had a red bib. In Lake Louise, fifth place was also born from the fact of returning to compete in this discipline, perhaps it influenced me on an unconscious level. The plan for the weekend in Sankt Moritz is to give my all to get the most out of it, skiing solid, having fun and staying on the footholds. I can control my performance, but not that of the others, we'll see what happens."
Elena Curtoni, here second last year in super-g, reached the podium in the 2016 finals also in downhill and has excellent sensations: "It's a track I like, I feel at home because the air of the Valtellina is behind here. Practice went quite well, but I can be much more reactive, push the corners better, find the right confidence. Three days of demanding competitions await us, as happened in Lake Louise, where it was -30°. In Sankt Moritz the track is shorter and the temperatures are higher, it's slightly less tiring".
"It went a little less well than yesterday (when it finished eighth, ed), I have to look carefully at the video what there is to improve, especially in the upper part - said Federica Brignone, today two seconds behind Goggia – I'll try to put the pieces together, get the best out of what I did in the first and second workout. Here I can make the curves where I want, I can't wait above all for the super-G to arrive on Sunday.
I've always managed to do well in Sankt Moritz, I hope to have the same good sensations as these days".
Finally Laura Pirovano: “Lake Louise's ninth place in the super-G gave me great joy, the joy of being back competing has erased all the injuries of the past. There are many bumps, let's hope for visibility even if Friday's forecasts aren't good. I feel at ease in both downhill and super-g, I hope I go well in both specialties here in Sankt Moritz".
