Another magical season, after the “total” one of Federica Brignone who, in 2020, brought the absolute crystal ball to Italy for the first time.
This year Marta Bassino and Sofia Goggia were the great protagonists of a record-breaking women's national team if we think that, with the official announcement this morning regarding the Downhill World Cup won by the Bergamo, which is added to that of giant of Cuneo arrived with a race to spare in Jasna, never two blue had won a crystal ball each in the same season.
And never for two years the "Avalanche Rosa" had won two cups, after the trio of Brignone 2019/2020 (general, giant and combined). Odds 10 , but we are talking about successes in CdM races in a single season (the record of the women's team dates back to 1996/97), which remains the goal of the blue for these finals in Lenzerheide, given that only one is missing after the poker of Bassino and Goggia and the only gem of Brignone, in the super-g in Val di Fassa.
For Bassino it was simply the season of consecration, after the explosion of the previous one with podiums in all disciplines: four pearls in seven giants, from Soelden to Courchevel up to the double win in Kranjska Gora, six podiums in seven specialty races and then that parallel world title, even if the medal was missing in his discipline.
Poker of successes also for Goggia, from Val d''Isère to Sankt Anton, up to the one-two in Crans-Montana and only one huge regret, the lack of chance to win his first world title and right on the snow of " home ”, in the world championship in Cortina lost due to the Garmisch injury. At least today, fate has given something back to the Olympic champion, who can now already look forward to Beijing 2022 and another great dream, that of the encore in five circles.
