Farewell to Ricarda Haaser: disc herniation again, operation and season over

Austria loses another important athlete for Cortina 2021, who has returned to high levels in super-g. "It wouldn't have made sense to compete in these conditions."

Another bad blow for the Austrian women's national team, already forced to give up Schmidhofer and Ortlieb, as well as find themselves with many athletes returning from injuries. Ricarda Haaser, who was finding himself at a really excellent level in super-g (17th and 14th in Garmisch, but above all 7th in Crans-Montana) and also in giant, with an 8th place in the second round of Courchevel, has ended the season prematurely. The 27-year-old Tyrolean had obtained the pass for the world championships in Cortina, but has again ended up under the knife for a herniated disc problem that she had already accused just over a year ago. Haaser had long suffered from back pain, which has increased in recent days; the magnetic resonance performed in Innsbruck found an acute herniated disc and it was necessary the surgery, carried out by doctor Michael Gabl, with the relative competitive stop. "The first problems arose in December, but they didn't particularly hit me until the Garmisch-Partenkirchen race - explained Ricarda through the OESV press office - The pain came suddenly even when walking or sitting, a feeling of numbness in the right leg. My wish would have been to be in the World Cup and finish the season, but this would have made sense only if I was in top condition ”.
