Cleaning and milling on Olympia delle Tofane, water on Vertigo: this is how we work in Cortina

Snow continues to fall on Cortina d''Ampezzo, but the weather forecast announces an improvement from the evening and in view of tomorrow (Thursday), the day in which the two super-g originally scheduled for Tuesday were rescheduled. The track men have not stopped for days, they continue to work day and night to polish the world championship tracks and demonstrate once again that Cortina d''Ampezzo can work miracles. To praise the effort and professionalism were also the queens of speed, who in the post-reconnaissance interviews exalted the great work of the organization. Alberto Ghezze, race & sport director of Fondazione Cortina 2021, has a clear idea of the time schedule. In the morning, all the A nets (the fixed ones) and the sliding sheets were cleaned, while all the B nets were removed for the second time in a few hours. As soon as it stops snowing, the snow groomers will be back in action, which will have to operate with extreme delicacy to avoid damaging the previously prepared base. They will move the excess snow to the sides and then mill the coat. The Olympia delle Tofane and Vertigine slopes will be treated in two different ways. The first, used for women's races, will be cleaned and milled, while water will also be thrown on the new track that will host the men's fast tests, waiting for temperatures to drop below zero. During these hours, 16 snow groomers will be employed, also operating with winches and 150 people only in areas where the machines are not in action. 450 shovels, 100 rasps and numerous cutters are used for the final finishing. These days there is no rest for anyone, the men will remain on track until tomorrow's races. Alberto Ghezze: "We will only wet the upper part of Vertigo: the falling temperatures, which should reach -8 degrees, will allow us to return to having a compact mantle - explains the former blue technical director - On the Olympia Tofane instead we have to clean without damaging the bottom, it's all in the skill of our team of cats. The surface is hard, only those few centimeters of soft snow will remain on the surface, which will be taken off the ideal track already during the reconnaissance. We don't have many men on the track because they cannot operate when the vehicles are in motion. They will go into action as soon as the snow groomers are done.
