The Women's World Cup in Sestriere, with a giant and a parallel giant planned in the heart of the season on the "Kandahar Giovanni Alberto Agnelli", was officially presented with all the news and side events at the two days of competition. A little over 3 years after the December 2016 appointment (when Worley and Shiffrin stamped giant and slalom), the Piedmontese town is preparing to welcome the athletes with a rich program of collateral activities able to involve the greatest number of enthusiasts mountain and winter sports. The event will be inserted in a context of great celebrations that will animate the whole town, from the parterre of arrival to the streets of the town, from squares to clubs. On the other hand, we are talking about one of the historical places of the white circus; since the first season in which the World Cup was born, Sestriere had the honor of hosting one of the first stages, on March 3, 1967. On that occasion it was Jean Claude Killy who won the men's downhill on the legendary Kandahar Banchetta slope while, in the women's field, Giustina Demetz and Marielle Goitschel, on an equal footing, climbed to the top of the podium. We must not forget, however, that even before the birth of the CdM circuit, Sestriere was also the site of the legendary international competitions of the Arlberg-Kandahar, organized since the early fifties. Sestriere, in its long competitive course, organized 63 World Cup races, not counting the World Championships in 1997 and the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games. Over 50 years of history that have crowned the greatest champions of world skiing. Therefore, there is great expectation for this edition: in the race arrival area, a stand with over 750 seats will be set up, a hospitality tent for accredited guests and a sponsor village that will host various stands to entertain the public before and after the races. Having already dreamed of being able to host the World Championships again, those of 2029 for which we are already working with the FISI to present an application, as announced in recent months.
