Yannick Chabloz is the winner of the first descent of the 2021/22 European Cup, staged in the magnificent setting of Santa Caterina Valfurva.
On the "Deborah Compagnoni", the Swiss class of '99 unlocks by dominating a very short race (just over a minute) in which he manages to distance an expert athlete like Marco Pfiffner, who brings Liechtenstein on the podium, by 36 cents, and 45 his compatriot Ralph Weber. It is also the day of Nicolò Molteni's best career result, fresh from his debut in the World Cup in Beaver Creek: excellent sixth place for the 23-year-old from Como, just over two tenths from the podium area and preceded by '' Austrian Koeck, fourth, and another Swiss, Gilles Roulin, fifth.
Pietro Zazzi and Guglielmo Bosca, the other two most anticipated men from Italy, are satisfied with 13th and 16th place respectively, with Simoni 23rd and Paini 29th. On Sunday in Valtellina a second descent, then on Monday the grand finale with the super-g which will also see Giovanni Franzoni return to the race.
