Del Dio believes it: "We aim for three athletes in the top ten. Vinatzer's injury is not serious, I'm confident"

The slalom coach of the Azzurri speaks, 48 hours after the big appointment in Campiglio. "Razzoli is fine, but he can't handle heavy workloads. Let's give Kastlunger time to grow."

Last year saw his Clément Noel derail a few meters from the triumph on the Canalone Miramonti, but he made up for it a couple of months later, conquering the Olympic title at the 2022 Beijing Games with his champion. Once the cycle at the helm of the French team was over, Simone Del Dio returned to coaching the national blue slalom team, starting the new adventure at home with the Val d''Isère race: the Valsusino coach is ambitious and his approach to the 69th edition of 3Tre, scheduled for Thursday evening (at 5.45 pm for the 1st, at 8.45 pm for the 2nd) in Madonna di Campiglio for the second CdM round of the season if we talk about "rapid gates". “The team is doing well and is capable of achieving great results, it lacks a bit of boldness to aspire to the top positions - his words via the press office of the 3Tre organizing committee - We know that there is great competition , but we too must be in Campiglio. Alex Vinatzer's injury isn't serious, but it's painful. We want to remain confident: tomorrow he'll make some goals and we'll evaluate with him if the pain is bearable in the race. On the contrary, Giuliano Razzoli has recovered: he can't bear heavy workloads, but he no longer has back pain". The surprise of the first slalom of the season was Tobias Kastlunger, tenth on the Face de Bellevarde, but Del Dio warned: "Tobias is a young boy who comes from team B. We are getting to know him, he certainly has the potential to do well both in slalom and in giant, but he is in his first experiences in the World Cup and needs to grow gradually without pressure". The Piedmontese coach is certain about the atmosphere in Campiglio: “The crowd at Canalone Miramonti is among the hottest in the World Cup. I would be fully satisfied if one of our athletes finished on the podium, perhaps with three athletes in the top ten. Norway is one step ahead of everyone, not only in alpine skiing but in all winter sports. It is enough to look at the ratio of inhabitants/medals won at the Winter Games: they are a sparsely populated nation but one that punctually wins the medal table. Already in the past they have had great athletes like Aamodt, Kjus, Svindal, Jansrud but it is clear that recently in the slalom, in addition to the already known Kristoffersen and Foss-Solevaag, they have found two youngsters like Braathen and McGrath. Their secret is the youth movement: the quality of their work is unquestionable and it is evidently rewarding even at the next level”. Not surprisingly, the last five CdM slaloms were conquered by the Scandinavians, with Kristoffersen and Foss-Solevaag winners of the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Trentino slalom. “However, for Thursday I don't see a real favorite – Del Dio points out – If we look at the history of the slalom in recent seasons there hasn't been a ruler. In addition to Norway, I expect a lot from the Swiss, in particular Meillard and Yule who has already won here (two consecutive times, ed). Then there's the usual Noel, who I know well, and we hope to be there too”. The program of the 69th 3Tre will start on Wednesday from 18.30, with the bib draw in Piazza Sissi, followed by the "Meet & Greet" organized by UYN with the national teams of Italy, Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Spain.
