And now ... Val Gardena! Wednesday the first test on the Saslong for the jet men: "It will be a show"

The president of the organizing committee, Rainer Senoner, presents the 53rd edition of the great classic which will see the men's CdM face the second seasonal super-g on Friday and a legendary descent on Saturday.

After the opening for the jet men on Oreilley-Killy, another historic track of the white circus will host the second appointment with speed, in a World Cup season that comes alive with the Italian races. And it will be Val Gardena to open the dances (albeit preceded, unlike the original calendar, by the giants played in Santa Caterina Valfurva), with the super-g and the descent on the "Saslong", Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December with scheduled start at 11.45 am. Same times for the two tests scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday. A special edition also for the Saslong Classic Club led by Rainer Senoner, called to react quickly to the Covid emergency, developing various scenarios since the end of May. "In the best of cases we will be able to face the races as usual, but we will also be prepared in the event that the number of spectators must be limited or even in the event that the public cannot really be there", declared the number 1 of the organizing committee on that occasion. And so it was. If in the summer Senoner and his men were still optimistic about the possibility of organizing the competitions with a reduced number of spectators, the first doubts arose at the beginning of autumn, with the increase of infections throughout Europe. In October, in agreement with the FIS, the FISI, the Provincial Government and the local health authorities, it was definitively decided that the speed classics at the 1970 World Cup headquarters would be held in front of empty stands. The support for the legendary competitions that take place under the Sassolungo came from the tourism industry and from the political leaders of Val Gardena, together with the Province of Bolzano and all the partners. "This cohesion and this solidarity are an essential engine for the Saslong Classic Club - explains Senoner himself - Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, which is putting a spoke in the wheel, we hope that the 2020 World Cup can be a full international event of passion for skiing ". So, on the last weekend before Christmas, all ski enthusiasts can enjoy the two speed classics on the Saslong. Certainly not on the spot, but from home watching TV, together with millions of other viewers. The organizers will also use social media and the official website www.saslong.org to provide all fans with lots of interesting information and insights live. “If the fans cannot come to the Saslong, this year the World Cup will go to them”; promises Senoner that ... does not take a prediction. “There is no clear answer, the last races of last season took place too long ago and the downhill champions competed only once in Val d''Isère before arriving in Val Gardena. However, it is no secret that Saslong is a particularly suitable track for Norwegians. From 2012 to 2018, every year at least one Norwegian athlete was unbeatable in one of the two speed races ”. Of the last fifteen races in Val Gardena, nine have seen Jansrud & Co. triumph, with six pearls out of eight in super-g and the hat-trick in this discipline in the 2016 edition. Even if the last winner on the Saslong is Austrian and responds to the name of Vincent Kriechmayr, who won the super-g a year ago before the descent was canceled.
