One of the great protagonists of the Italian national team of the 1960s passed away at 80. The memory of the Saslong Classic and President Rainer Senoner.

A pioneer of blue skiing, a great protagonist of the Italian national team of the 1960s who preceded the generation that led to the birth of the "Blue Avalanche", to which he contributed significantly in the role of technician. A prominent figure such as Ivo Mahlknecht, protagonist of two editions of the Winter Olympic Games (Innsbruck '64 and Grenoble '68, with the 6th place in the '' disappeared yesterday, at the age of 80 in his Ortisei descent on the French snow), but also of the 1966 Portillo world championships, where he finished sixth in the combined, and of various top ten placings in the first races of the newly formed World Cup, without being able to get on the podium. After becoming a coach in the national team, Mahlknecht was also race director in the world championship slalom 1970 in his Val Gardena: “With Ivo Mahlknecht, Val Gardena loses a pioneer of skiing who obtained weight results especially at the national level - in the words of Rainer Senoner, on behalf of the Saslong Classic board - Our deepest condolences to family members and we hope they will find strength and comfort in this difficult moment.
