A painful renunciation, for one of the best slalom players of the European Cup team, the one who before the various back problems had arrived up to the World Cup after the great duels from a very young age with a certain Henrik Kristoffersen.
Giordano Ronci is not there and denounces an unpleasant situation, the one that happened to him a few days before the opening weekend of the continental circuit, with the slalom scheduled for Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November in Funesdalen. In Sweden, the 27-year-old Roman will not go there, as the Federation has informed him that he would have to pay the travel costs.
And yet, we are talking about an athlete of "national interest", but above all of the third blue in terms of startlist in the European Cup, fully in the first group of merit (4th in Gstaad last season, a few months after returning after a year off ). Ronci who would also be the Italian slalom champion in office, had it not been for a mistake committed to a handful of doors since the conclusion of the 2nd round, to the Cortina Assoluti last March, when he flew with a second and a half margin over the competition. ..
"I communicate my painful renunciation of the Swedish trip for the first European Cup races - Ronci said - Despite being an athlete of national interest and the first group of merit, on the eve of the start I learned that I would have to personally bear all expenses, without right to reimbursement.
A question not only economic, but also personal prestige: the Federation has in charge all my colleagues just because in team B, even if some are outside the first group. I thought that the announcement of my renunciation would have raised in FISI a discussion on the moral question of the unequal treatment and on the lack of help to the deserving with modest economic possibilities.
Instead nothing, despite my communication, no response. I will lose my first European Cup group table, I will not score in the first races and I will have difficulty improving my ranking.
But I want to reassure all those who follow me: the difficulties have always stimulated me and so will this time also ".
