On Thursday 22 December, the great challenge takes place under the spotlights of 3Tre, for the 69th edition of the classic men's slalom of the World Cup in Madonna di Campiglio.
There are seven Azzurri called up for the second appointment after Val d''Isère, with an expected return compared to what was seen in France. After the forfeit on his debut due to a small hernia in his back that emerged in training at the end of autumn, Giuliano Razzoli has dissolved the reserve and will be at the starting gate on Canalone Miramonti, with the dream of conquering his first podium in Campiglio, he who ... all placings from fourth on down.
Of course, the conditions may not be ideal, but the excitement of the Campiglio crowd has always given something extra to the Italy team, with Alex Vinatzer himself who wants to be there at all costs, even if the Val Gardena will decide only on Wednesday given the situation of his right knee (meniscus injury), injured yesterday in the second giant on the Gran Risa.
Tommaso Sala will certainly be in the match, the only other blue with Razzoli starting in the second sub-group from 8 to 15, Stefano Gross, Simon Maurberger, Tobias Kastlunger and a Federico Liberatore who, after the first signals sent in the European Cup, finds the World Cup.
Italy boasts nine victories in the history of the very classic 3Tre: three, in fact, the successes of Alberto Tomba and one each for Giorgio Rocca, the last blue winner in Campiglio in 2005, Ivano Edalini, Fausto Radici, Piero Gros, Rolando Thoeni and Gustavo Thoeni, with twenty-five total podiums and that of Alex Vinatzer of the 2020 edition (3rd place).
Some members of the women's World Cup team are currently involved in the Ponte di Legno meeting, which will end on Wednesday 21 December. On the track Laura Pirovano, Marta Bassino, Nadia Delago, Nicol Delago, Elena Curtoni, Roberta Melesi and Asja Zenere, together with speed manager Giovanni Feltrin and technicians Paolo Stefanini, Luca Scarian, Michale Mair, Daniele Simoncelli and Giorgio Pavoni.
Dominik Paris and Giovanni Franzoni, on the other hand, are preparing the appointment in Bormio in the same town in Brescia, with the coaches Alberto Ghidoni, Christian Corradino and Michael Gufler, thanks to the excellent snow conditions guaranteed by the Sib Company.
