The 23-year-old Swiss had in fact procured a deep cut in his left leg, skiing in fresh snow for an off-piste in the "social version". The recovery failed, after today's test of the eve towards the giant scheduled on the Italian night between Friday and Saturday (first heat at 2.00, the second at 5.00). Meillard will not be in the race or between the wide doors, where he was back from the Garmisch podium (with the following victory in the parallel giant of Chamonix, but that's another story), but neither for Sunday's slalom.
Empty journey, therefore, as he risks being flown to Japan so as not to compete also Michael Matt, who accuses a spinal problem from the parallel giant of Chamonix that has prevented him from training for over ten days. "Only on Sunday will we understand if I can handle the loads," said the Austrian slalomist.
