Seven years after that pearl of December 8, 2012, when he tamed "his" Face de Bellevarde for his second World Cup career success (he had previously established himself in the parallel of Moscow), Alexis Pinturault returned to take him slalom of Val d''Isère, on a Sunday of enormous significance for the 28-year-old from Courchevel.
The transalpine has not won in slalom for almost 6 years (Wengen, January 2014), today it achieved the third victory in the specialty, the 25th in absolute in the maximum circuit, and above all leadership in the overall World Cup with adjoining overtake on Henrik Kristoffersen, which in the 1st round gave him half success, then completed by a second one of great maturity by Alexis.
The fight with the Norwegian has just begun (21 points that divide them), even if so many sprinters, including Dominik Paris, are close considering the fluctuating performance of the two big favorites to succeed Marcel Hirscher in the gold book . Today, however, Pinturault only thinks of celebrating with the people of Savoy and with his coach Fabien Munier, who in the post-race confessed candidly to Ski Chrono. "I just want to cry with joy."
Here is "Pintu" in the post race: "I had not felt great sensations in the first race, but the result was obviously very good. In the second one, however, I could not manage anything: I pushed to all (preceding Myhrer and company of almost a second and a half) because on the Face you can not afford to do otherwise, although having to respect it like few other tracks in the world.
It's really nice to win here again after the giant successes (2016 and 2017, ed) and that success of 7 years ago. The world Cup? You know what my goal is, this is just a stage of a very long journey â€.
At home in France there was also the enormous disappointment of Clément Noel, who in the first run was traveling very fast (at Kristoffersen's pace, slightly ahead of Pinturault), but with too many risks taken before going out in the final. "It is frustrating - the 22-year-old from Remiremont said bitterly - In front of all these people I dreamed of a very different result, but it went like this and now I can't do anything about it".
